Are You Scared? (2006)

Homicidal Maniac: Brent Fidler (as Shadow Man)

Quick Synopsis: Six people who applied for the reality show "Are You Scared?" wake up within a manufacturing plant without any memory of how they got there. They now must find a way out before they are killed.

Review: This movie is horrendous.  I honestly could not state a single redeeming quality that this movie holds.  The best thing that I can say about the film is that it is only 79 minutes long.  Overall the acting is pathetic and not a single character is likeable. Every scene involving the detectives is so bad that I can't even enjoy it.  Outside of a the final kill, the effects are even more repulsive than the acting.  My favorite part about the killer is the fact the burns he has on is face continuously change places and severity.  The first half of the movie the burns are on the left side of his face and below his chin.  By the end, it completely covers his entire face; it is quite obvious the idea of continuity never crossed the minds of anyone involved in the movie.  Right when you think the movie couldn't get any worse they try to throw you a "clever" and "creative" twist.  The killer is the star of the movies father and he has captured her mom.  Apparently, they caused his burns after they could no longer handle the torture he used to put them through.  Doesn't seem too bad right, too bad at no point during the movie does this idea come to light.  The guy has the balls to say that he has been waiting for her to apply for the show for awhile. Why? There is no reason this bitch would apply for this show if she was supposedly avoiding any attention because she thought she killed her father.  The fear she gives: she's afraid that someone will find out her secret (killing her father), well the best way to do that would probably be going on a reality show right?  So why the fuck are you applying for a reality show?  If you are not a fan of the Saw series, you should probably skip this rip-off.  If you are a fan of the Saw series, you should also skip it, since it is a completely awful horror movie.

Fun Fact:  The writer and director, Andy Hurst, appears to be the king of writing sequels of movies that were semi-successful.  This includes: Wild Things 2, Wild Things: Diamond in the Rough, and Single White Female 2.  Ironically, he did not right the sequel to this awful movie.

Hidden Gem: As explained in the review, the scars on the face of the killer are constantly changing.
