Rant: This is the first Nightmare that really lets you know you're in the 80s. The music and abundance of montages really slap you in the face and almost physically hurt you. For some reason I've seen parts 4 and 5 about a million times each. I still can't remember which parts belong to which movie. We're at the point in the series where they're just cranking shit out. It's not good, it's not that bad, but there is some stuff we need to point out.
The character of Kristin returns but Patricia Arquette doesn't. She's now played by a girl named Tuesday Knight. Tuesday fucking Knight? I looked it up, it's actually her real name. Joey and Kincaid return as well and they're played by the actors from the previous movie.
So a dog pisses on Freddy's grave and he just comes back to life? No explanation or anything. Freddy just says "You shouldn't have buried me, I'm not dead." So what the fuck happened to him at the end of Part 3? I guess it doesn't matter, he's back. He kills the three characters from the previous movie off pretty quick, so I hope you didn't like them.
The best part of this movie is we get to see Robert Englund as a cross dressing school nurse in a dream sequence. I'd actually rather fuck him than the old bag of meat that worked at my school. We also see Freddy at the beach. There's some strange shit in this flick. He's not content with just killing these kids. He's either the nurse or the teacher or a doctor or whoever. He's so bored at this point. He's sick of killing and possessing and throwing out the one-liners so he's decided to spice it up. A little cross dressing, a little role playing. Why not?
If you remember in Dream Warriors, Kristin has the ability to pull people into her dreams. Since Freddy has killed all the Elm Street kids he's trying to get her to bring him more children. Before Kristin dies she gives this new girl Alice her powers. Why the fuck would she do that? So Alice can bring people into her dreams and have them killed? What the fuck?
So Alice is now the Dream Master. She absorbs everyone's powers once they die. The smart girl's brains, her brother's martial arts. That's a neat idea but she's just a boring fucking character. Then we have an even more boring nice-guy jock. Adds nothing. These two survive the movie. They're what we get to look forward to in the next installment. Fucking shit. And how do they kill Freddy? She shows him his reflection in a mirror...
As I said before, this movie doesn't rape the franchise or the character of Freddy, but it's nothing special at all. There are some really cool scenes and Freddy has some great lines but it's just another Nightmare on Elm Street film. Robert Englund is the only reason this awful horror movie has any entertainment value.
