Rant: It's called Pumpkinhead. I thought the son of a bitch would have a pumpkin for a head. He fucking doesn't. What the fuck?
Lance Henriksen gives a really good performance as Ed Harley, a simple grocery store owner in the country who's son is killed by inner city folk. He then goes through the rigmarole of finding the old lady in the woods and getting her to call upon the demon that will avenge his son's death.
This is a really fun movie. What I didn't expect was the two most moral characters get bumped off first. The effects are fantastic but the kills could have been better. It's mostly people being dragged into the trees and killed off screen. Honestly I don't mind it because although at it's core it's a slasher, it's not the Friday the 13th type where the movie lives and dies on the creativity and effects of the kills. The story is more important and the development of Lance Henriksen's character.
This is a monster movie, a slasher movie, a cabin in the woods movie. Any fan of either of those genres will enjoy this awful horror movie.
Fun Facts: Henriksen's pet dog in the movie, Gypsy, is the same dog from Gremlins.
