The Ring (2002)

Director: Gore Verbinski

Starring: Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, Brian Cox

Run Time: 1:55

Rant: If you watch The Ring immediately after watching Ringu, the story is pretty much the same but you'll be pleasantly surprised to find there are enough differences to keep you entertained.

First of all the footage on the tape is drastically different. There's the woman brushing her hair and there's the well just like before but they go down a more disgusting route in this one. There are fingers being cut off, centipedes and maggots running around. Gross shit. I kinda liked that you couldn't really make out what some of the shit on the tape in the original version is but this version is just as creepy. Once again, great music.

I hate the fucking kid that plays Naomi Watts' son. I want to smash his face in with a hammer. Why do they cast such annoying fucking kids in these movies? It's almost enough to ruin the entire fucking film. Fuck. At least Brian Cox is in this to make me forget about him.

There's a really good scene with a horse on a boat that they throw in and a few other disgusting scenes the original doesn't have. This has to be one of the best horror remakes I can think of. A lot more is explained to you and it's not as subtle but it's still a very entertaining and creepy awful horror movie.

Fun Facts: When this movie was released on VHS, they play the cursed video at the very beginning. When it's over a phone rings twice.

  1. I think it was a terrific movie. My only problems were two: VHS was already a dead medium and a DVD should have been substituted somehow; then there should have been a cutaway-- only a second or two-- from the cursed video; otherwise the audience should die, too.

  2. A V/H/S tape is infinitely more terrifying then a DVD so there should be know problem with that. And for the second part, they want the audience to feel the same fear and worry that they may get a call.
